It is an honor and blessing to call this guy my big brother! It is his birthday today. We celebrated both of our April birthdays on Thursday, thanks to our wives. We spent the day driving BMW’s at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. It is a day I doubt we will ever forget. He is still my mentor, encourager and the one who challenges me. Topping off on our way to Indy! My brother Scott and I will be at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for a BMW Performance Driving School M experience day. Linda and I made a trip this week to Lexington, Kentucky. The Kentucky High School Sweet 16 Basketball Tournament was being played at Rupp Arena. We drove down to celebrate meeting in the arena 45 years ago. We had a wonderful dinner at Cole’s on Main followed by some walking around downtown. We did grow up in the same town, but honestly, the first time Linda caught my eye was at the basketball tournament. This cooler at work was a reminder of our mom this morning. For years, she was a mainstay at Anderson’s grocery. A business founded by my grandparents, later operated my uncle Earl and later by my cousin Conny. My mom was in the store from a young age until she retired. Under her watch, there was never standing around in the store. There was always a shelf to face up, that is what she called it. You would pull the stock to the front edge of the shelf with the label facing forward. And, if you finished that task, there was always a floor to sweep, or a window to wash. Come along for a virtual road trip with Angela Savage. Angela is the daughter of Swede Savage. Swede was a motorcycle and auto racer in the 60’s and 70’s. Tragically he died after a horrific crash during the 1973 Indy 500. He is the last driver to die from a race day crash at the speedway.

Angela never met her dad, never shared a conversation or a hug because her mom was expectant with Angela during the 1973 race. Angela’s life has had its share of trauma and she shares some of that on this road trip and in the book Savage Angel. The book is not only about Swede’s racing.
